********************************************************************** Media Pro 4000 Brief Date: September 23rd 1999 File: TCM-4020_Firmware_and_PCB_Revisions_BR092399.txt Module: TCM-4020, Time Code Module Title: TCM-4020 Firmware and PCB relationships ********************************************************************** 1) There are 2 revisions of the TCM-4020 PCB. a) The version of the PCB can be identified by looking at the Front side of the TCM-4020 module (component side), at the bottom edge of the module, in the center there is a silk screen: P/N 11105 rev ? b) The first version is P/N 11105 rev 0 (circa April 1999) c) The second version is P/N 11105 rev A (circa August 1999) d) If the silkscreen at the bottom center of the Module can not be read there are 2 other places the PCB revisions can be found, in PCB etch at the top edge of the Module, on the front and the back, near the faceplate. 2) The Firmware is different for each of these 2 revisions of the TCM-4020 PCB a) P/N 11105 rev A should use Boot TCM42B10 or Later. b) P/N 11105 rev A should use Firmware TCM42D10 or Later. c) P/N 11105 rev 0 should use Boot TCM42B00 or Later, (but less than B09) d) P/N 11105 rev 0 should use Firmware TCM42D00 or Later, (but less than D09) 3) If the wrong Boot is downloaded to either revision PCB, (ie: PCB rev A with firmware less than ver 10 is wrong). (ie: PCB rev 0 with firmware greater than ver 09 is wrong), a) The Module may work as expected if the Download firmware is the correct firmware for that revision of PCB, but the Boot is the wrong for that PCB. 1) The correct Boot Firmware can, and should be redownloaded. b) The Module will have a blank display, or a display with garbage characters if the Download version is wrong. 1) The correct Download Firmware can, and should be redownloaded. 4) Updating Firmware a) In most cases it is only necessary to update the Download Firmware, and not necessary to update the Boot firmware. b) Most modules will not display firmware information when queried if they are running only the Boot, Nor will they verify the boot. c) If the programming of the Boot seemed successful, and the Module does not respond to version info requests, or verify the boot, proceed with programming the Download Firmware, then Verify both the download Firmware, and the Boot Firmware. d) Once the Download Firmware is running, the module should respond to the Firmware version requests, as well as be able to verify the Firmware. e) NOTE: It is imperative that once the programming of the Boot is started, that it NOT be interrupted (reset, turned off, unplug the comm cable, ...), or the module may become unusable (requiring a new Boot Flash to be installed). f) If you are not having success programming the firmware in a module, Put the Prog/Test/Run switch on the ICM in Test mode then try downloading the firmware. 1) Putting the ICM front panel switch in to Test will stop Cues, and Animation from playing on that rack, and decrease communications to modules in that rack. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Specifications subject to change at any time.
