 Title: ICM-4020E EtherNet-IP Communications with a A-B CLX 5555

This brief is intended for Control Engineers and Technicians
 who are installing, programming and maintaining a MediaPro
 Control System that communicates with an Allen-Bradley
 ControlLogix PLC on an Ethernet network.

It is assumed that you have some understanding of Show Control,
 Ethernet IP Networking and Windows PCs, and some experience
 programming MediaPro 4000 Systems and Allen-Bradley ControlLogix
 PLCs.


1) Hardware and Software used while writing this brief

    1.a) ICM-4020E w/ firmware 32251214A (04-21-03)

    1.b) MP-4000 v2.1.0.1 (04-18-2003)

    1.c) Allen-Bradley Control Logix 5555 (1756-L55/A, rev 10.25)

    1.d) A-B CLX EtherNet-IP comm. adapter (1756-ENBT/A, rev 1.40)

    1.e) Rockwell Software RSLogix 5000 (v10.00.00)

    1.f) 10base-T hub, three cat-5~ (straight) Ethernet cables
    1.f.1) 100base-T or 10/100 Hub or Switch may be used.
    1.f.1.a) A switch may be necessary if more than the PC, CLX,
             and MediaPro are communicating over the same network.


2) Make certain that the MP-4000, ICM-4020E, CLX
    and programming PC all are correctly configured.

    2.a) They should all be on the same IP subnet.
    2.a.1) i.e. 192.168.0.0/24
    2.a.2) 192.168.0.0 through 192.168.0.255
    2.a.3) with subnet mask 255.255.255.0

    2.b) e.g. ICM-4020E Maint port 192.168.0.100
    2.b.2) Note range 192.168.0.100 - 192.168.0.163 will be
            reserved by the ICM, do not assign the CLX or PC an address in that range.

    2.c) e.g. CLX 11756-ENBT/A: 192.168.0.209

    2.d) e.g. PC: 192.168.0.231


3) Make certain the PC can download and go on-line with the CLX.


4) Make certain that the PC can download and verify,
    config and cues to the ICM-4020E.


5) RSLogix 5000 software

    5.a) Controller Tags
    5.a.1) Note: Controller Tags must be used,
            Program Tags will not work.

    5.b) New Tag
    5.b.1) Name: FROM_MP
    5.b.2) Tag Type: Base
    5.b.3) Data Type: Int
    5.b.4) Array Dimensions: 64
    5.b.4.a) Note: Dim must be equal to or greater than quantity
              of words configured in MP-4000

    5.b.5) Scope: Controller
    5.b.5.a) Note: Program scope will not work.

    5.c) New Tag
    5.c.1) Name: TO_MP
    5.c.2) Tag Type: Base
    5.c.3) Data Type: Int
    5.c.4) Array Dimensions: 64
    5.c.4.a) Note: Dim must be equal to or greater than quantity
              of words configured in MP-4000

    5.c.5) Scope: Controller
    5.c.5.a) Note: Program scope will not work.


6) MP-4000 software, ICM-4020E, Ethernet Config Tab, EtherNet-IP
    configuration Example

    6.a) Port: Maint

    6.b) Device: CLX 5555

    6.b.1) Device IP: 192.168.0.209
    6.b.2) Device Slot 0 (CLX processor slot)

    6.c) From MP 0: 600
    6.c.1) Qty (W): 64
    6.c.2) Type: Int
    6.c.3) To Tag: FROM_MP
    6.c.3.1) Note: case sensitive

    6.d) To MP I: 600
    6.d.1) Qty (W): 64
    6.d.2) Type: Int
    6.d.3) From Tag: TO_MP
    6.d.3.1) Note: case sensitive


7) RSLogix 5000: Download and go on-line with the CLX

    7.a) Controller Tags, Monitor TO_MP
    7.a.1) Change some of the values

    7.b) Controller Tags, Monitor FROM_MP
    7.b.1) Watch for changes to the data


8) MP-4000: Download and go to Cue Edit Tab

    8.a) Cue Controls Outputs, Goto 600
    8.a.1) Right click on some of the bits to toggle them.

    8.b) Cue Controls Inputs, Goto 600
    8.b.1) Watch for changes to the data


9) Troubleshooting: Sometimes the CLX Ethernet Module won't
    connect correctly if a previous connection was not closed
    properly.

    9.a) The PC RSLogix 5000 can usually still communicate.

    9.b) Going to program mode, then back to run seems to
          have no (positive) effect.

    9.c) Turning the CLX off, then back on clears the problem.
