 Title:   AOM-4020 Firmware and PCB relationships

1)	There are 2 revisions of the AOM-4010 PCB.

	a) The version of the PCB can be identified by looking at the
            Front side of the AOM-4010 module (component side), at the
            bottom edge of the module, in the center there is a silk
            screen: P/N 11043 rev ?

	b) The first version is P/N 11043 rev 0/A
          (circa September 1997)

	c) The second version is P/N 11043 rev B (circa February 2000)

	d) If the silkscreen at the bottom center of the Module
            can not be read there are 2 other places the PCB revisions
            can be found, in PCB etch at the top edge of the Module,
            on the front and the back, near the faceplate.


2)	The Firmware is different for each of these 2 revisions of the
         AOM-4010 PCB

	a) P/N 11043 rev B should use Boot AOM6BT00? or Later.

	b) P/N 11043 rev B should use Firmware AOM6DL00 or Later.

	c) P/N 11043 rev 0/A should use Boot AOM5BT01 or Eairler,

	d) P/N 11043 rev 0/A should use Firmware AOM5PGM2 or Eairler,


3)	If the wrong Boot is downloaded to either revision PCB,
         (ie: PCB rev B with firmware less than  ver 6 is wrong)
	 (ie: PCB rev 0/A with firmware greater than ver 5 is wrong)

	a) If the wrong boot firmware is downloaded to a module,
          that module will stop working and will require
          the replacement of the flash chip (with the correct boot)

	b) If the wrong download firmware is downloaded to a module
          that module will stop working and will require
          the "BOOT ONLY" jumper to be installed, and the correct
          download firmware programmed.

		1) The correct Download Firmware can, and should be
                redownloaded.


4)	Updating Firmware

	a) In most cases it is only necessary to update the
	 Download Firmware, and not necessary to update the
	 Boot firmware.

	b) Most modules will not display firmware information
	 when queried if they are running only the Boot,
	 Nor will they verify the boot.

	c) If the programming of the Boot seemed successful,
	 and the Module does not respond to version info requests,
	 or verify the boot, proceed with programming the Download
	 Firmware, then Verify both the download Firmware,
	 and the Boot Firmware.

	d) Once the Download Firmware is running, the module should
	 respond to the Firmware version requests,
	 as well as be able to verify the Firmware.

	e) NOTE: It is imperative that once the programming
	 of the Boot is started, that it NOT be interrupted
	 (reset, turned off, unplug the comm cable, ...),
	 or the module may become unusable
	 (requiring a new Boot Flash to be installed).

	f) If you are not having success programming the firmware
            in a module, Put the Prog/Test/Run switch on the ICM
            in Test mode then try downloading the firmware.

		1) Putting the ICM front panel switch in to Test
                    will stop Cues, and Animation from playing
                    on that rack, and decrease communications
                    to modules in that rack.
